Mission
My mission is to save lives. The slogan "Drop your pride, too many have died" is a message that young people need to hear and understand. Simply stated, just put your keys down if you drink. Make the next best choice. The lifeline in my logo is symbolic of how fast life can end. Drop your pride (KEYS) too many have died. This was a point that I needed to hear and understand; however, I did not hear and I clearly did not understand.
On July 29, 2001, I did not put my pride aside. Because of this decision, a great tragedy befell upon my life and undoubtedly the lives of countless others. Even though this experience has left many individuals lives empty with heartache, it has also changed many lives for the better.
I have come to learn that many speakers who lecture on drinking and driving only say, "Don't do it"! I do not excuse young adults who drink. I accept no matter what I say, they will still make poor choices. I understand peer pressure places young adults in awkward situations, often leading them to make bad choices. I want young adults to understand that some actions have serious consequences. I know some individuals may disagree with my philosophy on this subject, but I have received great feedback about the strength of my message. I don't spend much of my speaking time telling people not to drink; I do tell them not to drive after drinking alcohol.
Is my speech or slogan the magic answer? NO! It is just a more logical and reasonable way to look at an epidemic. Sometimes as adults, we need to meet young people halfway to promote change. I am an individual with a tragic story who wants to bring about this change. I want to inspire others to be courageous so that my story can help prevent other tragedies.
